Richard Ferguson, director of espace anglais

The company is built on the extensive skills and experience of Richard Ferguson.

A native English speaker, Richard holds an honours’ degree in French (II:i) from the University of Sheffield, a French & English translation certificate and has been living and working in France since 2001. He has over thirteen years’ experience in the language services industry.

Richard has been working in translation since 2004. After completing a one-year diploma in French and English translation at the University of London in Paris in 2003-04, he started translating professionally with Praetorius France sas, a translation company based in the Paris region. He began life at the company as a translator/proofreader and was quickly given project management responsibilities, overseeing the work of in-house and external translators and liaising with customers. Within eighteen months of joining he was promoted to team manager, coordinating the work of up to ten translators and project managers and managing a team turnover of up to €600,000, whilst continuing to contribute regularly to production activities (translation, proofreading and final validation). He left Praetorius in the second half of 2009 in order to set up as a freelancer at the start of 2010.

His specialist fields include IT/Telecoms and HR/business translations; his IT and HR expertise was in part garnered by working in the IT Division at Société Générale Corporate and Investment Bank’s head office in La Défense, Paris for over three years, between 2001 and 2004. He has also acquired extensive experience of translating automotive and motorsport texts through work for various manufacturers and their racing teams, including Renault (World Series by Renault, FIA Formula E, Clio 3RT European Trophy), Alpine (FIA WEC in 2016 and 2017), Peugeot (Total Peugeot Sport – Endurance/ILMS including the 24 Hours of Le Mans) and Citroën (Citroën Racing – FIA WRC) and for Sébastien Ogier in his personal communications in 2014 and 2015.

Richard has worked as official language partner to the Citroën World Rally Team since 2012, translating press releases and website material related to its participation in the FIA World Rally Championship. This was in partnership with Jérôme Roussel's motorsport media and communications company, Zone Rouge for six years; since 2018, he has worked alongside Eric Bellegarde's company, EB Communications, on content for Citroën Racing. Richard was notably involved in translating sub-titles for “19 Allée des Marronniers”, a 2012 film celebrating the career of nine-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb and his final full season in the WRC.

In addition to the specialist areas mentioned above, he has also translated a wide variety of media, including press releases, website articles and content, annual reports, technical specifications, standards, software code, user guides, contracts, financial reports and business correspondence in a range of other specialist areas, such as construction, electronics, engineering, environment, logistics, manufacturing, nuclear energy and transport.
